Maths Week

It was "Maths Week" recently and all the teachers planned a lot of fun maths activities throughout the week. The aim was to shift children’s view of maths and see it as a practical and fun life skill and develop a more positive maths mindset.

Here we are exploring symmetry.....

Good effort Will - this is a difficult task!

We watched how colours mix together when we paint them close together...
"We could use these in our bush fire play!!" What a good idea!

Room 8 make us maths games!
We were invited up to the luxurious second floor to try out some maths games that had been invented by the clever children in Room 8. We were so amazed when the children presented them all to us when we left! The games are now our new favourite thing - well done Room 8 and your awesome teacher!

Cooking for maths week....

Of course we had to try out out our brand new oven didn't we?
I can't thank Estelle's dad and Kimberly's mother enough for getting all the kids into the kitchen and cooking scones - they were brilliant with the children and everyone had a lot of fun...and learned lots too! (I learned that with such fabulous parent helpers I do not have to worry about cooking sessions).

We got our tiles back! Wow - they look amazing and we can't wait to see them installed outside our new building..

In art this term we continue to study the work of Piet Mondrian, the Dutch painter.

We have explored the relationship between lines and blocks of colour. You can see our finished work in hanging in our classroom.

Greenhithe School’s 125th Anniversary celebration.

In class, we are going to be looking at the past, present and future of our school. As an introduction to this, I would like each child to share with the class something from their past, present and future. They can make a poster .......

or they can bring in items and talk about them. These items could be favourite baby toys, first Christmas photos, or special family items that have been passed down to them (please nothing breakable). The future item could be a picture of a job they think they might like to do, a sport or musical instrument they would like to play or somewhere they would like to visit.
We will share these from the 4th to the 15th of September.
